Fairhope’s Storybook Castles

Sheldon Castle

Lion Face representing Sheldon CastleCome on in, see the Storybook Castles in Fairhope, Alabama. Let your imagination take you where it will– just as Craig Sheldon did when it all began as an addition to the family home, shortly after World War II.

The Sheldon Castle took shape, as Mr. Sheldon recycled, reused, and repurposed everything he could salvage, far, far ahead of his time. His resulting life’s work stands as a testament to ingenuity, resourcefulness, creativity, and beauty. It inspires us today.

Mosher Castle

Mosher Dragon IconThe Sheldon Family Castle sparked magic in Sheldon’s daughter, Pagan as well. Married to Dean Mosher, a long-time friend and fellow conspirator of Craig Sheldon, Pagan was delighted when her husband wished to help continue her father’s work.

The Mosher Castle came to life when Dean and Pagan purchased property adjacent to the Sheldon Castle and work began all over again. In keeping with the original style, the Moshers too, have used local materials, art, and craftsmanship wherever possible, including much of their own, and several special pieces Craig Sheldon never quite worked into his castle next door. As with any living form of art, the Mosher family continues to find inspiration and magic everywhere they look. And so, Mosher Castle continues to grow.

Boom Castle

Owl image representing Boom CastleThe Boom Castle came into being as long-time friends of the Sheldons and Moshers, Glenn and Sally Boom, purchased the old blockhouse adjacent to the Mosher Castle. Dean promised his experienced design advice for their castle, including much of the exterior trim and stonework, and the Boom family was delighted to continue the Storybook Castle theme. Enjoy the 7ft. round dragon door inspired by the Shire in JRR Tolkien’s Middle Earth books!
